Happy Stripe Filled Monday!

Good morning, everyone!

I'm getting a late start today after a very busy weekend full of sunshine and yardening.  

I want to show you something I'm working on with stripes.  I have been playing with stripes and really like the way these bias cut blocks look butted up next to each other.  I think I'll try to keep it mainly in the color pink and see what happens.

Also, I'm very proud to see that P&B Textiles posted a picture of my quilt design "Boxes and Bubbles" (on the left) at Market in Kansas City this weekend!  I'm very proud of this one and hope I will also get a glimpse of my primaries that were there, too.

Memories

Hi everybody!


I was so happy last week to make a memorial quilt for a woman who will give this to her mother for her birthday.  The fabric she sent me consisted of clothes that belonged to her father who passed away.  

I was able to incorporate shirts, pajama bottoms and even wrangler polyester pants into this simple and striking design.  She seems very pleased!

Monday, already???

Hello everybody!


I hope everyone had a great weekend.  We made the most of the wonderful weather and enjoyed a good inch-ish of rain last night.

Today on my design wall I have some cubes I've been working with.  I'm toying with the idea of working with this illusion a bit more and making a wall hanging out of it.  I like the way the stripes play into the cubes.  We'll see where it goes!  I must say that I'm very proud for teaching myself to make "Y" seams.  I went into a panic when it came time to sew my diamonds together... "I don't know how to make "y" seams".  I calmed down and figured it out.  I'm not sure however how I'll do when it comes to sewing them all together.  I may have to resort to taking them apart and doing the strip method... we'll see.


This week, while I wait on my fabric from P&B to arrive I'm going to be working on a last minute Mother's Day quilt that is going to be so sweet!

What's on my wall today!

Good morning!


Today I'm working on a quilt for a friend of mine's niece.  This is a variation of the Marcia Hohn pattern called "The Bountiful Quilt".  It's made by appliqueing circles on circles.  The resulting top is a bit heavier than your standard pieced quilt.  I know this because I've made this pattern once before without cutting out the circles after I have layered them, so this time I have cut out the backs of the covered circles to make it less heavy.  I am doing raw edge applique.  It makes for a really eye catching design and is a great way to use up your stash!

I had a busy weekend, this is a baby quilt made to go with Carter's Rockstar Monkey theme.

This is a quilt that I have named Urbanessence for P&B Textiles using their new line Scrafitto.

Baseball Jersey Quilt

I made this quilt with about 14 years of baseball shirts and jerseys for a young man getting ready to graduate from high school. His mother is so excited to give it to him.

This is the top for a quilt that will be in the Oct/Nov issue of The Quilter magazine.  I am sending the top to my twin sister for the quilting so that both of our names will be in the magazine.  Sept. will be so exciting for us!  This quilt also uses P&B Textiles Earthtones line.

Last week was SUPER busy!  Where do I even start!


Ok, I guess first off let's start with my dad's birthday.  That was on Wednesday, but the festivities started much sooner.  On the Friday night before his birthday, my twin sister decided on the spur of the moment to drive down from Colorado and we greeted her in the cantina late Saturday afternoon.  She brought her sewing machine and our family project "T Stars" so we spent several days working on those with our mom.


Since then I've been able to finish mine completely.  Mom and Barbara finished their tops while she was here.

Ok, back to Dad's birthday...  This was a big one for him - his 70th!  He had been dreaming of flying in some WWII bombers that were going to be at a show at the San Marcos Airport.  On Tuesday we got to see him go up in a B-17!!!  The next day he was set to fly in a B-24, but the weather was uncooperative for most of the day.  Finally, in the afternoon, their was a break in the weather, and when it came time to load everyone on the plane there was one extra seat --- FOR ME!!  What a thrill it was to fly on this plane with my dad on his birthday!  For anyone interested, this is the last B-24 that is still flying!  It has been flying since 1944!!!  That fact was both frightening and exhilarating!

After all of that it's a wonder I got any sewing done!!!  But I did...  I finished my quilt for P&B Textiles in short order once the fabric arrived and turned it back out the door in a few days, headed directly to the photographer in Colorado.  This is from their "felicity" line.  I love the colors and the fun design!  Look for the pattern coming out soon at www.pbtex.com.

This week I'll be working on the primary quilt for P&B's "Scraffito" line.  I'll have some pictures ready to post for next week!


After all the busy days that filled last week, I really enjoyed a quiet weekend at home.  Ruby is also glad to get back to a more laid back pace.  You can tell from this picture that, slow and mellow is totally her style!
